how to wear blue, black & brown together

fashion faux pas?!
dress and poncho: old navy (exact dress here; exact poncho here),
leggings: american apparel, booties: lucky brand via tj maxx, hat: target,
necklace: nordstrom

they say blue, black and brown cannot be mixed, right?
today i decided to try combining the three colors!

my black leggings from american apparel are a closet staple.
i started with them as a base and added the black and white tunic from old navy
(both the tunic and poncho in these photos are on sale!!).
with seattle winter weather well on its way, i needed another layer;
the black and white poncho, though printed, is simple
enough to go over the tunic. with all the black and white,
i wanted to add a bit of color! i grabbed my blue hat -
it has a small black band, which ties the look together,
and my taupe ankle booties.

what do you think? do you mix these three colors?
happy monday, everyone!
xoxo.
