fashion can sometimes feel rather daunting
(like a double edged sword):
there are so many trends and styles, many of which
you hope to try. 'is this trend practical?' 'will this trend be
flattering on me?' and 'how can i represent current trends, while also
reflecting my unique, personal style?' these are questions
i ponder on a regular basis, particularly when reading my favorite
fashion blogs and browsing magazines and pinterest.
i enjoy trying new styles, accessories and other clothing
items, but don't necessarily want to lose sight of my personal style.
i have worked hard to curate my closet (and subsequent style),
and i enjoy putting together outfits to wear IRL (in real life),
but also here, on my blog. thus, i strive to balance
wearing trends i see in stores and on the fashion runways with
items i truly love!
disclosure: today, i'm partnering with dia & co to promote 'try-day friday' and
discuss how to wear clothing that may be out of our comfort zone. we encourage you to 'face your
fashion fears' and try new trends and styles that make you feel like 'you!'
today, i'm wearing a clothing item i was initially unsure about:
culottes. i had seen many bloggers (and gorgeous gals
on instagram, pinterest and twitter) style culottes. in honor of
'try-day friday,' i put together an outfit featuring denim culottes!
if you're unfamiliar, culottes is derived from the french
word, 'culotte,' referring to a pair of trousers, shorts, knickers
and historically, breeches. culottes first graced the runway a few
years back, yet remain a prominent trend for spring 2017.
they are available in a variety of fabrics, prints and styles,
and can be worn for numerous of occasions.
i picked up my denim culottes at old navy;
i thought denim would be both flattering and versatile.
this medium wash can be paired with a variety of tops
and printed blouses in my closet. the culottes were on major sale,
too! when trying a new trend, i strive to thrift or find the item(s)
on sale, particularly if i am unsure as to how long the trend
will be in style and how often i will wear it #bloggerbudget
because culottes are designed to be loose-fitting
and wide-legged, i wanted my top half to be more form-fitting.
a tucked in t-shirt has always been a favorite and can
be a chic, flattering way to draw attention to your waistline.
i also find it gives off the vibe, 'i didn't try too hard.'
despite my initial skepticism of culottes, i have to say,
i'm a fan! since purchasing my denim pair, i found
a dressier style (a black floral print) to wear to the office.
culottes are incredibly comfortable, and i have a feeling this
is a style i'll be wearing again and again.
