print mixing (again!)

sweater: november stitchfix, skirt: francesca's, tights: old navy,
booties: dsw (similar here), necklace & ring: old navy

i know, i know, repeat offender; i just
shared this post in which i discuss my love for mixing prints!
in the colder, winter months, i gravitate towards
bright colors and fun prints. perhaps it is to compensate for
the dreary, seattle weather? or the fact that the sun now sets at 4:30pm?
regardless, i was drawn to this pink geo-print skirt
and wanted to pair it with the polka dot sweater i received
in my most recent stitchfix!

because both my skirt and sweater are fairly busy,
i wanted to keep the lower part of my body simple.
opaque black tights and some comfortable ankle boots
were the finishing touches!

now can we talk about thanksgiving?
what are your traditions? what are you planning to wear?
this year, my parents are hosting! i couldn't be more excited
to relax and spend time with them (surrounded by other close family members, too).
my dad typically smokes a turkey,
and it is delicious! i'm ready for all things pumpkin, too!
xoxo.

playing with prints

dress, tights & vest: tj maxx (vest similar here),
heels: dsw (exact here), bracelet: alex and ani nautical bangle (exact here)

i've always been a fan of mixing prints (who knew plaid and leopard could
compliment one another?!) but i have to admit,
it can be intimidating!

a few tips? when playing with prints, i try to stay within the
same color family. my heels, for example, have black and nude,
which go well with the black and bright red of the plaid dress.
additionally, the size of the varying prints matters;
the plaid isn't too much, or too busy, with the more simple
leopard print on my heels.
lastly, less is more! i wouldn't want a sweater, handbag
or jacket with a print. mixing just the two prints is plenty!

if you're just starting out with the print mixing trend,
i recommend a print with something striped
(whether a striped top, pant, or skirt). it's quick, simple,
and i swear, stripes go with everything!

do you have any tips for print mixing? one of my absolute
favorite blogs that features print mixing is fashionista, alena
of modaprints. she's adorable!
xoxo.
