a birthday

a few of my favorite things today -

cupcakes, celebrations, chambray, and scarves

(and alliteration, too).

today is this little blog's first birthday.

it is hard to believe i started writing this formally just twelve months ago.

i feel as though i was in a completely different place then -

for so much has changed.

in the past year, i've had a few different jobs,

said goodbye to several girlfriends who have moved,

pursued my passion for writing, 

met new friends,

lived on my own, 

learned to be a better cook,

lost my childhood home,

fallen in love with cupcakes,

oh, and fallen in love,

was awarded my very own column for an online magazine,

sent my brother off to college,

gained more self-confidence;

and a few less important endeavors such as

continued to bite my nails,

got new glasses,

read several books,

got in a car accident, 

and grew out my hair.

you see, this blog has provided me with both a creative and emotional outlet.

it is hard to believe that so many of the pictures, stories, and posts i share

(which i believe to be utterly frivolous), are read. 

and i am grateful to those of you who read and comment on them :) 

i hope to continue writing on this blog as often as i have done this first year.

perhaps my voice will change,

i will be inspired by other blogs,

my style will improve,

i will become a more positive individual, 

or things could stay the same? who knows.
