dearest skin,
you are so dry. and flaky. and painful.
my lips are chapped,
my face is peeling off (looks comparable to fur),
and my hands feel (and look) like sand paper.
the drop in temperature + using bleach and soap on my skin all day is not giving me that
"winter glow" so many of my friends possess.
instead i look like a lizard.
i am trying to love and take care of my skin,
but cannot seem to find a lasting remedy.
i have tried moisturizing (persistently),
and switching from hand sanitizer to soap and water at work. nothing seems to help.
lizard skin, please go away.
a few tips i found online include:
avoid hot water on skin - instead use water that is lukewarm.
avoid face soap and invest in a cream cleanser.
purchase a humidifier (not currently in the budget, sadly).
lather up hands and feet with lotion before going outside and before bed. then cover skin with gloves, socks, etc.
use bottled water to wash your face? um... not practical.
take fish oil pills.
i might need to try a few of these suggestions!
here's to hoping my lotion and persistent moisturizing efforts work.
goodbye fur.
xoxo.

I can commiserate with you completely! Fall & winter are my absolute favorite seasons but they wreak havoc on my skin and hair. I always try to drink tons of water which is harder in cold weather because I tend to crave hot teas and coffees but the caffeine in both (even decaf) is dehydrating, so I make sure to compensate with lots of water. I also make sure I scrub down once a week and put on body butter, not mere lotion, afterwards. For really bad hands and feet I turn to Bag Balm (http://www.bagbalm.com/why-bag-balm-is-better.htm) which is a life saver. And I do m y lips by exfoliating with a toothbrush morning and night and keeping the Body Shop's hemp oil lip balm on at all times.
