just a girl and her dog

if you know my family and me personally, then you know we 

absolutely adore our miniature dachshund, bailey! bailey turned 

fourteen last year! while her eyesight and hearing have 

become less reliable (though this could be blamed on 'selective

hearing'), she enjoys trips in the car, frequent treats and 

will tolerate the occasional photo shoot. 

we brought bailey home when i was in high school.

i recall my dad telling my younger brother and i that we were

going to visit my grandma. instead, we picked up a tiny

red dog -- she could fit in the palm of your hand! bailey stole our

hearts immediately, and to be honest, i can't remember

life without her.

our love for bailey may or may not border on an obsession;

my parents have a bathroom that is 'dachshund themed.'

there are (professional) photos of bailey, alongside other dachshund 

decor; what can i say?! in our family, when you love your dog, you 

really love your dog! she's a spoiled girl, but we would not

have it any other way.

^^^ say the word 'treat,' and she will love you forever! ^^^

in the fourteen+ years we have had bailey, i have picked up just 

a few wiener dog-related items for myself. i received an adorable

 pair of dachshund leggings and dachshund water bottle 

from my coworkers on my birthday this year! and when i saw 

this blouse, i knew it had to come home with me; what better way 

to style it than alongside my favorite pup?!

the immense love my family and i have for our pup. we treat

her like a member of our family. despite her old age, she 

continues to enjoy being carted around with us and the occasional

walk (particularly if she knows treats will be

provided after).

sunglasses & doggie dates

the sun is out! did you remember sunscreen? sunglasses? a hat?

nope, nope and nope. i can never seem to remember

the sunshine essentials! thankfully i had these ray-ban wayfarer sunglasses

during my most recent photo shoot. they turned out to be a fun prop, and the

shape and style of these sunnies has always been my favorite! 

my parents went to visit my younger brother in tennessee last week, 

and they left their 13-year-old dachshund, bailey, at home with me. 

i took her everywhere! we walked green lake, ventured through sculpture park,

visited the downtown nordstrom, and she even came along to take photos.

she's very sweet and loving, and for 13, she is doing quite well. 

however, she is incredibly stubborn (as you can likely tell in that first photo - 

i am dragging her along!). she whines and cries and begs for food constantly, yet makes up 

for these annoyances with her ever-present desire to sit on your lap 

and give puppy dog kisses (my favorite!).

i thrifted these high-waisted levi's a few weeks back, and they've been 

on frequent rotation in my closet. i love the cropped length and bold wash

of the denim. instead of wearing my usual moccasin or ballet flat with this blouse, 

i opted for comfort: my nikes. i can walk all over the city in these, and with this outfit 

combination, i am wholeheartedly embracing the current athleisure trend!

hello weekend - 

i am so happy you are here.

i had a little sleepover at my parent's house this weekend

to celebrate my dad's birthday.

and then i thought, well i should probably play dress-up while here.

i found some true gems in my mom's closet.

unfortunately, she was unwilling to let me 'borrow' them, 

other than for photo purposes;

but mom, i will be back! 

the celebration was complete with some snuggles from this dog.

i hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with 

family and friends.

we are off to my aunt's house for christmas dinner,

but i plan to spend as long as possible this morning

lounging in pajamas, drinking coffee, and 

watching copious christmas movies.

i wore this little skirt and flannel to christmas eve 

dinner at my grandmother's house. 

we ate delicious lasagna, salad, and i lost

count of the number of cookies and chocolates i ate.

i suppose that means the evening was a success.

i am a pretty spoiled little girl,

or so my family tells people - 

i would argue that i am simply cute, kind, and worthy of being

treated well.

i nap, relax, lounge, and sleep in that cozy bed.

a dog bed? not for this dachshund.

when i am not in bed, you will find me curled up in front of the fireplace. 

it is the perfect place for me around the holidays.

stories from a pup

^^^ that's me! ^^^

my name is bailey, and i am kind of a diva.

i like sunshine, warm weather, and lots and lots of naps.

i have a pink blanket, a pink leash, and a pink rain jacket

for when mom forces me to walk outside in sub-par weather conditions. 

that's my bed, too - 

strategically placed in front of our fire. 

i also like treats. give me a treat? i will be your best friend.

today i decided it was simply too cold to go for my daily walk.

thus i tucked my tail between my legs,

refused to walk,

and sat on our floor.

unfortunately, megan picked me up,

and took me outside with her.

next time, more drastic measures will be required.

in the meantime, it is back to bed for this pup.

a very, very special day

my name is bailey.

i know, i know, i am very cute.

and yes, i am wearing a life jacket. 

my family loves to take me out on their boat,

and i suppose us dachshunds are not renowned as

being skilled swimmers;

or so people say.

today is my birthday.

i am turning 11, which you could argue is getting old.

but i consider myself young at heart.

i still have lots of energy,

enjoy going for walks,

and love playing with other pups.

however, i am perfectly content taking long naps,

or sitting on my mom's lap.

so in honor of today, happy birthday to me!

here's to hoping i get some extra food at dinner,

or maybe even a bone?

cabin time

this past weekend, 

i went with my family and some close friends to our cabin up north.

we had a blast celebrating my mom's birthday,

feasting on delicious treats and home cooked meals,

(i snuggled a certain pup),

and being out on the boat.

i attempted water skiing again for the first time in several years.

although i was able to get up and out of the water,

i felt as though i had been hit by a car the next day.

perhaps a sign that i am getting old? eek.

my parents have been up at the cabin this entire week,

while i have been working away at preschool.

i am quite jealous but hoping to go back again soon!

summer, i hope you stick around because i am 

not ready to say goodbye.

trouble, trouble

this little pup is in trouble.

apparently her barking is obnoxious (and complaint worthy) 

to one of my parent's neighbors. 

he's a grumpy neighbor though 

and has complained about this sweet little pup before.

he claims she is the only dog in the building to ever bark. really?

and that she barks at all hours of the day.

she doesn't seem to be barking here.

and she spends a great deal of time on that couch,

as well as her own bed and on the lap of anyone nearby.

if only the grumpy neighbor realized how sweet bailey truly is.

oh well.

a staycation

^^^ this little pup loves to bask in the sunshine ^^^

i am currently on a staycation... at my parent's house. 

they have abandoned my brother and i (and bailey) for the next ten days

and jetted off to the beach.

why they didn't think to take me, i simply don't know.

i think i deserve a little trip, too! 

alas, i shall stay here, secure the house, and take care of a certain pup.

we spent the day walking around,

enjoying this gorgeous spring weather, and taking a nap (or two).

if this is any indication as to how the next few days will be,

i will take it.

although i suppose i must squeeze in time for that one thing - called work.  

let's hope this sunshine sticks around.

winter fashions...

...for a pup

look who got a new (and fancy) coat?

she looks a bit like a vampire in this photo -

i am not sure if it is due to her ears

 or the hood of the coat that will help keep her dry on walks.

regardless, she seemingly loves her new attire.

a holiday update

it is hard to believe christmas is already here! 

finished the last of my holiday shopping... yesterday...

nothing like leaving it to the last minute, right? 

this past week has been a blast. 

celebrating with friends.

snuggling my favorite pup.

being reunited with my very, very best friend after her travels abroad.

delicious treats.
christmas vacation has begun.

taking in all the festive sites seattle has to offer around the holidays. 

now it is off for some quality family time.

p.s. dear santa, my car really REALLY really needs an oil change.

the building bully

...seriously?

this cute pup - a bully? i don't think so.

according to the a****** in room 501 of my parent's condo,

sweet, loving, adorable bailey is a "bully."

is he insane?

he claims she barks incessently,

disrupts his "peaceful living,"

and makes all the other dogs in the complex bark.

she looks pretty ferocious, don't you think?

when taking care of the pup last weekend,

we ran into aforementioned a****** and he said he was going to kick bailey in the jaw

so that she could never bark again.

WHAT?!

not okay, sir. not okay.

we are going to kick you in the jaw and then kick you the heck out of here.

if bailey could speak, i know she would agree.

she is old and happy and excited to see people,

thus she will sometimes bark.

in addition, condo living is completely new to her.

she previously lived in a house with the same four people coming and going each day.

now it is her and the empty nesters (my parents) in a smaller space,

surrounded by new faces.

sir, it is called adjusting;

give her a chance.

and do not ever threaten my pup again.

i think you're the true bully in this situation.

last night i was especially hungry.

mom had gone to target to pick up some snacks and treats for nick. 

this time she purchased those yummy nutri-grain granola bars. 

i had to have one.

so i ate my way through the plastic target bag, the granola bar box, 

and said granola bar wrapper.

let's just say, i have been one sick little pooch.

but it was good :)
