blogger support

dear readers,
this blog is my love. while i primarily write it for myself,
i love sharing my thoughts, feelings, and adventures with you.
my dream is to be a writer, and this here blog has inspired me to do just that.
thank you for your comments, advice, and simply reading my seemingly frivolous posts.

i was recently given the opportunity to write for lafamily magazine
and could not be more excited!
my first article went live today, and i would greatly appreciate if you would take a moment to read what i wrote, comment, like, and tweet the link to increase my chances of having a weekly column with the magazine!

you can find my article here and also read about the lives of other recent graduates.
 thank you again!

xoxo,
megan

newly thrifted

i have been doing a tiny bit of thrifting recently...
my two favorite thrifting destinations are the value village near my apartment, and oh bella
(a local consignment shop).
where do you have the best luck thrifting?
here are a few of my most recent purchases :)
frye boots from value village (forty dollars)
j crew skirt from value village (six dollars)
cocktail dress from oh bella (twenty dollars)
c&c tunic (nine dollars) & anthro shirts (seven dollars each) from value village

i cannot wait to wear these items.

as i am going out to dinner with my faraway girlfriend who is visiting!!
enjoy the rest of your weekend.

a fun addition

...or perhaps i should say "a fun addiction"?
i saw these and knew they had to come home with me.
you can buy them, too!
i hate to admit this,
but this quote is very applicable to my life.
being honest counts for something, right?
however, i promise will try not to buy any more toms for a while.

happy friday!
xoxo.

seattle's mane blow dry bar

tonight i had the privilege of attending my first official "blogger" event :)
it was hosted by cascade ice and mane blow dry bar in seattle.
i met several other bloggers, had delicious food and drink(s), and got to have my hair styled.
let's just say it was a rather large improvement from the unbrushed hair i typically sport...
i apologize for the awkward pose...
i wish i could show you what a lovely job she did!
you, too, can go to mane blow dry bar and have your hair washed, dried, and styled for a very affordable price.
the stylists here are simply wonderful.
{ before }
i attended the event with this pretty lady,
my former roommate//girlfriend, k :)
her hair turned out stunning, too.
absolutely delicious :)
10 calorie margarita flavored cascade ice + a tiny bit of... ahem... tequila...
(however, it is quite a tasty lime flavored beverage sans tequila, too)

to the ladies from cascade ice,
and the stylists mane blow dry bar,
a most sincere thank you!
i had an amazing night and will be back to have the mowgli hair tamed... soon!
xoxo.

guest post // isme

good morning readers! i have a very special guest post for you today from the lovely c on behalf of isme ladies fashion online. i was unfamiliar with their website, but think i may be in love... the dresses are absolutely gorgeous, prices affordable, and diverse styles and sizes available are a welcomed change to most contemporary online shopping sites for women.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shop for top ladies fashion online at isme

Shopping online is the easiest way to take a quick look at a clothing range, without having to spend time travelling to, from, and around the high street. But how can you be sure that your look will be stylish, comfortable and well-fitted?

This can be a particularly difficult issue for mature women, and with many shops aimed at the younger generation, it can sometimes be tricky to find age-appropriate styles that are comfy without being frumpy and outdated. This is where isme comes in.

isme is an online fashion retailer that was created to fill an evident gap in the market for stylish clothes for mature women. It caters to the modern woman who wants to look and feel good, and offers a range of sizes, from 6-32.

The womenswear section contains many helpful features to help you pick a garment that suits your shape and personal style. The ‘Women’s Trends’ section allows you to browse through three complete looks, and for spring 2012 these are African Origins, Flower Bomb and Ray of Sunshine.

Each has a unique colour palette and tasteful styling - African Origins, for example, comprises a range of beachwear, jumpsuits, maxi dresses and wide-leg trousers in earthy browns, terracotta tones and animal print.

Other features demonstrate that everyone can look good in isme clothing, regardless of body shape. isme’s brand ambassador and contributor, Lynda Bellingham – known by most as one of the stars of Loose Women - looks at each new collection as it arrives, picks her favourite pieces, and shows you how to style and accessorise them. As a mature woman with a curvaceous figure, she shows that everyone can look fashionable, be comfortable and be themselves with isme.

The InReality girls also show how isme understands the female body shape in all its forms. The InReality ladies are women of all shapes and sizes who want fashion that fits them and their bodies.

Their job is to show you how to wear styles you may think you can’t pull off because of age or body shape, such as brights or skinny jeans. It’s refreshing to see real-life, unaltered models who look good in the clothes they wear, and show that you can too. So, once you’ve shopped for ladies fashion online at isme, you’ll never look back!

dress weather

alas, it is dress-wearing weather!
no tights necessary...
or down jackets...
seattle, sometimes i love you.

have you been to target recently?
their spring/summer apparel is magnificent.
the little dress i am wearing cost nineteen dollars :)
dress, chambray & sunglasses: target, shoes: toms
it is hard to believe that the weekend is over, and another week is upon us.
i spent the weekend with girlfriends,
walking the lake,
watching a few new babes,
eating far too much ice cream,
and blowing my nose.
the wretched cold persists!
i also love coughing constantly.
despite the juice, water, tea, medicine, and cough drops, it simply will not go away.
perhaps the sunshine will improve my disposition/illness :)
i am off to sit in the sun with my new jodi picoult book while baby naps.
xoxo.

to my little buddy,

it is hard to believe that we met almost one year ago.
i have visited you weekly for the past year,
and i feel as though we have developed a unique bond,
despite you being a rowdy, but very genuine 11-year-old boy.
i remember when i visited you for the first time
and you punched me to demonstrate your strength.
i will never forget how you taught me to skateboard, shoot hoops,
and properly jump off a swing.
nor will i forget when you were reprimanded for wanting to wait for me by the window
on the day we planned to celebrate your birthday.
i will always remember your love of raw cookie dough, vanilla milkshakes, and chicken strips
(i learned of your love for vanilla shakes when i mistakenly brought you chocolate -
but you drank it anyways).
i will cherish the time we spent reading and listening to music together.
i am so very happy that you are moving on to bigger and better things.
you have an incredible strength about you,
and have endured more hardship during your childhood than most people will in a lifetime.
i wish you the very best of luck,
and hope i have influenced your life half as much as you have mine.
you made my life feel purposeful,
and helped me to believe in the possibility that i can make a difference.
i will never forget our time together.

--your big buddy, megan

colorful

i just can't get enough...
...colored jeans.
i might need to add yellow to the collection :)
are you a fan of colored jeans?
if so, do you have yellow/where can i find them?!

hope you had a wonderful weekend!
(i promise to be back with a more thought-out post tomorrow hehe)
xoxo.

just strollin'

today i participated in the annual fremont troll stroll to benefit cystic fibrosis.
it was the first (officially) warm day of spring (in seattle),
and i hung out with three friends,
and ran into several others while strollin'.
what better way to spend a saturday than with good friends,
sunshine, and a tiny bit of beer that will help others?
i think you will thoroughly enjoy these pictures, too...
look what we found?!
wiens!
my two new best friends.
adorable :)
most legit bouncer... ever...

so much fun :)
hope you had a fabulous saturday, too!
xoxo.

an outfit

all of the babies are sick!
thus, this nanny is sick, too.
we have been taking lots of communal naps,
drinking juice and water (and milk for the tiny humans),
and being especially lazy.
today we got a treat for our sore throats :)
i think all the cookie dough on mine really helped...
i know these outfit pictures are incredibly high quality...
...not.
but i really wanted to show you my newly thrifted shoes :)
happy friday!
xoxo.

nanny tales (ii)

the most precious munchkin...
blowing on a dandelion with her snack cup in hand :)

i few interesting/hilarious tales that have taken place recently:
-forgetting the diaper bag for one of the babe's and then having to purchase him diapers (which do not come in small package sizes), wipes, and a new outfit.
-puke coming out of baby's nose and mouth at the same time - eek!
-pushing a babe on the swing for the first time (his first time).
-baby holding my finger while i feed him his bottle.
-coming home covered in snot and puke everyday this week.
-hiding from crocodiles under the blanket.
-being told "you're my favorite".
-eating pancakes at least twice a week.
-baby poo-ing on me while sitting in my lap.
-baby smiling at me when i come to wake him up.

who would have thought nannying would be this (un)glamorous, but rewarding?!
not me.
and i love it :)
happy hump day!
xoxo.

the healthiest fruit salad

for book club tonight
(we discussed "extremely loud & incredibly close"),
i made the healthiest fruit salad of all time.
i borrowed the recipe from my mom's best friend,
and it is delicious :)

ingredients:
8oz of cream cheese
8oz of sour cream
a splash of vanilla extract
several pinches of sugar
lots and lots of grapes
to do:
mix sour cream, cream cheese, vanilla extract, and sugar.
stir in grapes.
let mixture sit at room temperature so the cream cheese will soften.
mix and mix until your arm hurts.
refrigerate for approximately 30 minutes before eating.

i bet you know what i will be having for breakfast and lunch tomorrow...
leftovers :)

change is welcome here

i am ready for change.
right now, i want to change my appearance somehow...
i have changed my clothes,
with my new uniform being sweatpants.
i have thought about cutting my hair,
but the nubbin has taken so long to grow!
i have tried to stop biting my nails,
but that is a seemingly lost cause.
i thought about a new piercing,
but my body rejects them.
hmmm...
i spy a potential change...
xoxo.

teeth

a very happy (belated) birthday to this girlfriend!!!

i despise going to the dentist.
...absolutely despise it.
in fact, i think i rescheduled my appointment three times.
do not get me wrong,
i am a teeth-brushing fiend.
and crest white strip addict.
and have a slight obsession with my electric toothbrush.
going to the dentist, however, is another story.

oh yes, please let me scrape at your teeth with this barbaric tool/knife.
oh, that makes your gums bleed?
that is strange.
why would they bleed?
oh wait, you do not floss three times a day?
your teeth certainly have a lot of plaque.
what tooth paste do you use?
ugh.
the dentist never has good news.
and this girl has a cavity (despite how well i think i take care of my teeth).
which means i have to go back next week, too.

funny story for you though :)
last night i was being a good girl and flossing my teeth.
however, i accidentally used my brother's woven floss...
you know the kind that is thicker, two colors, and semi furry?
i was trying to floss under my permanent retainer,
and the floss got stuck!
first, it tore, so i had two separate pieces in there.
literally... imagine blue floss hanging out of my mouth.
i could not stop drooling,
and begged my mom to help me.
we tried pulling on it, using tweezers, more dental floss, etc. etc.
she said i might have to go to the dentist with the floss still there!
eek!
fear not, after about 10 minutes of pulling on my poor teeth,
the floss was free. close call though, let me tell you!
xoxo.

better tomorrow

for the remainder of this post, i am going to be honest.
i am going to tell you how absolutely furious i am right now, in addition to being
upset,
sad,
embarrassed,
and anxious.
(and after this post, i will go back to being more positive - i promise)

i am so very tired.
physically (because it is the end of the week) and emotionally.
i feel like i cannot catch a break.

a few confessions...
i feel like my life is not going anywhere.
i regret several recently made decisions.
i have no idea what i want to do anymore.
i think i need to move home.
i got in a car accident today and i cannot look at the damage without crying.
my bank account is not doing well.
i am lonely.
it breaks my heart knowing how disappointed my parents are in me at the moment.
i am stressed about life, $$, my future, my lack of ambition, etc.
i miss my faraway friends so very much.
sometimes i just want to walk away from my life and trade with someone else.

pity party concluded.
thank you for letting me vent, again.
the good today would have to be the red velvet cupcake i ate for dinner. yep.

flower headband diy

this is the easiest diy -
in fact, you will probably wonder why i bothered posting pictures.
here we go :)
materials needed:
scissors
t-shirt
glue gun
(optional: needle and thread)
1. cut the bottom hem off the shirt and discard
2. cut a 1-1 1/2 inch thick strip of t-shirt
3. cut loop, so you have one long strand.
4. wrap strand around head, and cut so it is 2 inches shorter than the circumference of your head
(the t-shirt will stretch, and you want to be sure the headband is tight enough)
5. to make the flower, simply use a small part of the strand and wrap fabric in a circle
(you can use the glue gun to perfect the flower, and to hold it together)
6. glue the flower onto the t-shirt strand, and tie
that's it!
(you can also sew the ends of the headband together, but since munchkin and i did this project, we took the easy route and simply tied the ends)

have you made these?
super cute and fun!
xoxo.
